”My lab has a background in reconstitution of minimal cytoskeletal systems in artificial confinement. In the past these efforts where aimed primarily at the eukaryotic cytoskeleton with a focus on microtubules and their role in force generation and spatial organization of the eukaryotic mitotic spindle, as well as crosstalk with the actin cytoskeleton. More recently the focus has shifted to prokaryotic cytoskeletal systems that can be expressed in cell free systems (PURE). The lab has key expertise in microfluidics, microfabrication, biochemistry, fluorence microscopy, cryo-EM, optical tweezers and protein design.”
”Our current research related to synthetic cell research is focused on the design of minimal modules for active DNA segregation. Our system of choice is based on the ParMRC system which we have recentely shown can be expressed in the PURE system encapsulated in vesicles. We aim at using this system for active DNA segregation and find ways to coordinate with other synthetic cell modules such as DNA replication, cell shape control and cell division. Eventually we also aim to integrate this module with modules for cell metabolism (cell growth and energy generation).”
