CNRS, Univ. Bordeaux, Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal, France
Jean-Christophe Baret is Professor at the University of Bordeaux and a research group leader at the Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal (CNRS/University of Bordeaux). JCB is a member of the Institut Universitaire de France and founder of the company Emulseo. His research group works at the interface of physics, chemistry, and biology, with a focus on microfluidics, soft matter, and synthetic biology. Over the past years, JCB has coordinated the network of the University of Bordeaux Frontiers of Life and the European Doctoral Network SigSynCell on Synthetic Cell research.
”Within SynCell-nExUs, the research project lies in the assembly of minimal metabolic systems capable of converting external energy (light energy or chemical energy) to fuel out of equilibrium systems. The main objective is to use and mimic the natural organels able to make the conversion of energy in living systems (eg thylakoids, mitochondria) and integrate them to fuel non spontaneous chemical reactions or mechanical actions in soft matter systems.”
