SynCellFR: a new initiative to gather the French synthetic cell research community
The SynCellFR community held its first meeting on 27 June 2025 in Bordeaux.
France has a large number of scientific experts working on or interested in synthetic cell research. Led by Professors Jean-Christophe Baret (CRPP-CNRS, University of Bordeaux) and Christophe Danelon (Toulouse Biotechnology Institute), they recently launched the SynCellFR initiative. On 27 June, SynCellFR organised its first networking event, a one-day meeting in Bordeaux, to share and discuss French research activities in this field.
The event included presentations by community representatives, a series of talks by researchers at different stages of their careers (PhD students, post-docs and academics), poster presentations highlighting the convergence of physics, chemistry, biology and engineering in this area of research, and a brainstorming session on the scientific vision and objectives of SynCellFR.
