SBA5.0 will convene global policymakers, scientists, industry leaders, bio-entrepreneurs, investors, youth innovators, and One Health experts to explore how Africa can operationalise the new global Synthetic Biology policy—adapting its principles into national strategies, governance systems, innovation pipelines, and biosecurity architectures that protect and empower African societies.

The conference will illuminate how synthetic biology and AI can transform Africa’s future: powering climate-resilient agriculture, elevating health systems, enabling distributed biomanufacturing, supporting green industrialisation, expanding genomic and data sovereignty, and safeguarding ecosystems through next-generation biosurveillance and cyberbiosecurity.

Over three days, SBA5.0 will feature high-level policy roundtables responding directly to the global policy’s priority areas—risk assessment, ethical governance, capacity building, regulatory harmonisation, and equitable benefit-sharing—while connecting these themes to Africa’s development needs, scientific ambitions, and continental frameworks.
